Carmelite News February 2024

  • Open Day 16th March 10-4 at St John the Evangelist Church, Stapleford

We are planning to welcome anyone interested in Carmelite spirituality to our regular monthly meeting. Come for the morning or stay for the whole day. Bring a packed lunch; tea and coffee provided.

  • An Invitation: Online Lenten Retreat

Prepare yourself for Easter together with the Discalced Carmelites! “THROUGH THE CROSS
TOWARD THE LIGHT”
with Père Jacques de Jésus. www.retreat-online.karmel.at

  • Community Formation: St Therese of the Child Jesus

In 2023, the Church celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of St Thérèse of Lisieux (2nd January 1873), as well as the first centenary of her beatification (29th April 1923); and in 2025, we will be celebrating the first centenary of her canonisation (17th May 1925). We have decided to use the materials produced by the General Curia of the Teresian Carmel in Rome for the Jubilee Year of St Thérèse.Eight study guides were produced and circulated last year and more will be made available this year.

  • Community Membership

It is with much sadness that we have said goodbye to 2 long term members of the community and one enquirer, all who have discerned that Carmel is not for them.

  • Community Retreats

This year we are planning 2 retreats: the first at Buckden Towers in Cambridgeshire (https://www.buckden-towers.org.uk/) is intended as an opportunity for the Nottingham and Lincoln Secular Carmelite groups to meet, pray and study together. The second will be a silent retreat later in the year, following a much-appreciated silent retreat last September at Mount St. Bernard Abby, only recently reopened to guests.
